DEMOCRACY DAY: OLASOJU ASSURES OF MORE DIVIDENDS OF DEMOCRACY AT THE GRASSROOTS

Isolo, Lagos

Fri. 12th June ‘26

The Executive Chairman of Isolo LCDA, Olasoju Adebayo has reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more dividends of democracy at the grassroots as the country marks another anniversary of her democracy day to honour the sacrifices of her heroes and heroines whose priceless struggle berthed  democracy.

In a goodwill message released by his media office this morning, Olasoju highlighted how democratic rule has retooled the trajectory of the country since 1999 as he extolled the virtues of democracy fighters especially those who fought against military rule  and paid the ultimate price for this cause.

The council chairman noted that despite the challenges confronting the nation, democracy remains the most viable system of government for ensuring accountability, inclusiveness, popular participation and sustainable development. He stressed that the freedom enjoyed by Nigerians today is a product of the resilience and sacrifices of patriotic citizens who stood firmly against authoritarian rule.

According to him, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demonstrated courage and commitment in implementing far-reaching reforms aimed at repositioning the country for long-term prosperity, urging Nigerians to remain hopeful and supportive of the government's efforts.

“Democracy is not merely about periodic elections; it is about ensuring that governance translates into improved living standards for the people. While we acknowledge the current economic realities, we must also appreciate the bold steps being taken to build a stronger and more prosperous nation for future generations,” he said.

Olasoju further assured residents of Isolo LCDA that his administration would continue to prioritize people-oriented projects and programmes across critical sectors including education, healthcare, youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, infrastructure and social welfare.

“As beneficiaries of democracy at the grassroots, we have a responsibility to ensure that governance positively impacts the lives of our people. We remain committed to initiating and executing projects that will uplift our communities and improve the welfare of our residents,” he added.

The Mayor of Isolo therefore called on citizens, particularly young people, to deepen their faith in democratic institutions, remain law-abiding and actively participate in nation-building, expressing optimism that Nigeria's best days are still ahead.

In conclusion, Olasoju prayed for many more democracy days to celebrate with more remarkable national development to show for it.
